Prosecutors say Trump’s Twitter ‘hacked’ by simple password guessing

The Trump administration did not respond to the latest demand, but Twitter said in a statement to the Publish that he had “seen no evidence” to support Gevers or the prosecutors. He added that he has put in place special security measures for “high profile and election-related” Twitter users, including Trump.

Whether the prosecutor’s office is accurate or not, the allegations call attention to guarantees (or the lack of them) for politicians. As Gevers said in October, a successful guessing of the password would mean Trump wasn’t using two-factor authentication – it would have been trivial for a malicious intruder to hijack the account. This would be a serious problem for any politician, especially at a time when state sponsored hackers thrive.
