Tech companies are under pressure to support officials investigating the Riot at the Capitol. Senator Mark Warner of Virginia has letters sent to eleven tech companies urging them to preserve evidence related to the mob that has invaded the House and Senate. Most of them are social networks including Facebook, Given, Speak, Signal, Telegram and Twitter. The requests were also directed to Apple, Google as well as carriers such as AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon (the parent company of Engadget).
In each case, Warner noted that the rioters went out of their way to record the event, whether it was taking photos, sending messages or even live streaming their actions. This and related information such as metadata and cloud backups could be “critical evidence” for the FBI and victim prosecutions, the senator said.
