Serena Williams’ husband Alexis Ohanian has lashed out at Madrid Open owner Ion Tiriac after calling on the 39-year-old to retire due to her age and weight.

Ohanian criticized Tiriac on social media, accusing him of being racist and sexist following his comments on Romanian television.

“At that age and the weight she is now, she doesn’t move as easily as she did 15 years ago,” Tiriac said.

“Serena was a sensational player. If she had a little decency, she would retire.”

Tiriac is no stranger to commenting on Williams’ weight following a similar comment in 2018, comments the 23-time Grand Slam winner called “ignorant” and “sexist.”

Williams did not respond to Tiriac’s latest comments, with Ohanian taking to Twitter to take over Romania’s third richest man.

“You could say that nobody cares what Ion Tiriac thinks,” he tweeted.

“I had to google it… it turns out my 3 year old has more Grand Slam wins than that.

“2021 and no holding back when a racist / sexist clown with a platform comes for my family.”
