An interview with Akira Yamaoka – who many took to be a tease for a new one silent Hill game – was removed by its original publisher, AIHub. In a statement, AIHub explained that they were asked to remove the clip (but did not specify who requested), and apologized for the have done.

As much as the original statement, the deletion has sparked speculation, with many speculating that it is an attempt to stem rumors of an upcoming Silent Hill that has yet to be announced. There is, of course, the possibility that Yamaoka is talking about something else, and the deletion was done to stem the misinformation.

IGN has contacted Silent Hill publisher Konami for comment.

Silent Hill and Contra songwriter Akira Yamaoka said in a recent interview that he plans to announce a new project this summer and said he thinks it’s the one people “are hoping to hear.”

In an interview with the YouTube channel AI Hub, Yamaoka appeared to be talking about his latest work as a songwriter on The way. But when asked if there were any other projects he was working on, Yamaoka replied that an announcement would likely happen this summer. Plus, it could be a big deal for fans.

“You’ll probably hear something this summer to announce,” Yamaoka said via a translator before adding, “And I think that’s the one you’re kinda hoping to hear about.”

The best PS1 games of all time

Let’s not mince words here. Yamaoka is best known for his work on the Silent Hill series where he was an original member of Konami’s Team Silent development team. A new game Silent Hill has been making its way into the internet rumor mills for years now since the cancellation of Hideo Kojima’s PT and is easily one that fans are most eager to learn more about.

in the years since PT has been shelved, rumors of a new Silent Hill game in development have cropped up repeatedly. In 2020, a major leak revealed that two Silent Hill games could be in development, one described as a “progressive reboot” and the other an episodic game similar to the Telltale titles.

Team Silent’s original art director Masahiro Ito also tweeted in 2020 that they were working on a new title “as a main member”, and added: “I hope the title will not be canceled.” This last line was interpreted as a reference to PT, which led many to believe Ito was teasing a new game Silent Hill.

However, Keiichiro Toyama, director of Team Silent and former member of Sony Japan, recently left Sony to start their own business. Bokeh games studio with Gravity Rush designers Junya Okura and Kazunobu Sato.

It is said that the Toyama project is a horror action-adventure title according to an interview with IGN Japan.Meanwhile, Konami confirmed that he had not closed its game development operation after a corporate reshuffle, and has said in the past that they are still evaluating their entire IP portfolio for future game development.

Things aren’t confirmed at the moment, so if you want to keep your hopes in check, assume Yamaoka is talking about a new ESPN MLS GameNight reboot.
