Spiritfarer’s 2021 Developer Roadmap is full of new characters and story content

Must read

Spiritfarer dropped last summer and shot us to our hearts with compelling sheet music, vivid illustrations and heartwarming animations (hugging your spiritual shipmates continues to be a legitimate form of self-care). Despite being a real hidden gem, the game is still supported by its small studio, Thunder Lotus Games. Today the team released a 2021 development roadmap which showcased the many new features that gamers can expect throughout the year.

Three free content is coming to Spiritfarer, starting with the spring update which will introduce a new spirit named Lily (Stella’s younger sister!), Additional story content revolving around the game’s magnanimous main character, adjustments to gameplay designed to enhance cooperative play with a lot – needed UI changes and cooperative fishing, as well as quality of life changes that the post has not specifically developed on. Lily is the literal and metaphorical light in Stella’s life and her presence allows players to travel the world even at night. You can see an animation of Lily below.

The second update launches during the summer and is accompanied by another character. Beverly is a former neighbor to Stella and is the game’s second bird spirit (you’ll learn more about the third member of the bird-based cast in a few seconds). By its side, Thunder Lotus Games brings new boat builds that players can add to their schooner, other collectibles hidden around the world, and new recipes for those of us who love to surprise our spiritual guests with hearty meals. Check out Beverly below.

Finally, the last update arrives in the fall. Stella will venture to a new island that is home to a former hospital where Jackie (the caretaker) and her patient, Daria will live. In addition to more ship buildings, new resources will be implemented in the Fall Update. You can get a good idea of Jackie and Daria’s looks and personalities in the gifs below.

Jackie looks like an adorable beast, doesn’t she?

I loved my time with Spiritfarer and 2021 looks like a strong year for the future of its emotional gameplay loop. For those of you who haven’t played it yet, be sure to read on Why Spiritfarer is a different kind of Sim.
