“Oh say it isn’t, Joe.”

Fox Sports commentator Mark Howard summed it up pretty well as Joe Burns’ horror season continued at The Gabba on Saturday night.

The Australian ax test opener came straight back on the horse for the Brisbane Heat in their BBL clash with defending champion Sydney Sixers.

Burns has a solid record in competition and maybe this was the opportunity to get back into shape.

Instead, it was another tough watch as Burns struggled to score any of the seven balls before placing third man in Jackson Bird’s bowling alley.

Another long, lonely walk to the lodge.

“The shot was on, there just wasn’t enough bat on it,” noted former Australian star Andrew Symonds.

“You wonder what’s going on in the poor man’s head.

“Not what we would have liked for him tonight.”

Burns played the first two tests against India before the selectors lose patience.

The 31-year-old has averaged just 10.41 in 13 first-class innings this summer.

“He’s had a terrible season,” said ex-England international Isa Guha.

“He got that 50 in the first test match and thought okay he’s back.

“But then again, 1 in 7, getting into weird positions, you really feel for him right now.

“I hope he can get out of this patch.”

Despite another failure from Burns, the Heat managed to register a thwarted four-wicket victory over the Sixers.

Chasing the Sixers’ 8-165 score to win, Lewis Gregory (31 * of 16) and Jack Wildermuth (22 * of 10) guided the hosts home after opener Max Bryant (40 of 23) gave the Heat a good start.

Earlier, Josh Philippe scored for the Sixers with 48 while Mark Steketee took 4-33 for the Heat.
