Australian Jordan Thompson momentarily lost his temper in his victory over Frenchman Pierre-Hugues Herbert after some loud Greek fans proved too harsh for the game to continue.

On Wednesday, Thompson qualified for the third round of the Great Ocean Road Open with a thrilling straight set victory over Herbert, 6-4 3-6 6-3.

It took Australia’s world No.52 five match points, three on his own serve, as Herbert threatened to get his foot in the door before finally hanging on.

But Thompson’s victory was not without a break as his frustrations outweighed the sound coming from outside the stadium, with fans waiting to enter Rod Laver Arena for the shock of the ATP Cup from the Greece v Australia tonight.

The incident in the second set prompted Thompson to notify the chair umpire, Gregory Allensworth, to call and do something about it.

“Let’s tell the peanut gallery to shut up,” Thompson yelled after losing one of his breakpoints in Herbert’s serve game.

Allensworth then jumped on the mic to advise fans outside the stadium to shut up.

“Thank you ladies and gentlemen in the hallway between Margaret Court and Court 3, we can hear you here on the 3rd, thank you,” he said.

The noise finally subsided and Thompson was able to recover.
