“There’s no safety net for any of these guys and Tom, I mean… what he did with this character hasn’t been fully appreciated yet. It’s an amazing and truly incredible performance, ”said Nolan. “The voice, the relationship between just seeing the eyes and the forehead. We had all this talk about the mask and what it would reveal and what it wouldn’t reveal, and one of the things I remember he told me, he kind of put his finger on it. on his temple and his eyebrow and said: Can you give me this to play with? Let people see it. Sure enough, you see there in the movie, that kind of Brando-esque front, expressing all kinds of just monstrous things. It really is a performance.
The reception of Hardy’s Bane has been rather positive, but many complained that his muffled dialogue made it difficult to really understand what he was saying. This caused Nolan to adjust some of the mixed sounds to make it a bit clearer, but it wouldn’t completely change the voice.
Nolan is very determined in his manners, and also finds that not being able to hear the dialogue in his films is not a big problem. This is just a small glimpse into the directorial style of Nolan, the same director who apparently does not allow chairs on its movie sets and changed a character’s “sickening” death scene in The Dark Knight Rises as he would have given the film an NC-17 rating.
Later in the podcast, Nolan championed David Fincher’s work in Alien 3, saying “” Everybody always complains that the suites get bigger, but we are the people who make the suites, we want them bigger. You don’t want them to be smaller. It is the lesson ‘Alien 3’ that [David] Fincher learned. You can do it, but it won’t make anyone happy, even though I personally love this movie, much more than he actually.
These comments were one of many recently made by Nolan alongside those Criticizing HBO Max and WB’s decision to change 2021 movie roster to make his films available on HBO Max and in theaters on the same day.
