Twitter says it’s purged more than 70,000 explains the spread of conspiracy theories associated with QAnon. The company started to crack down on QAnon over the summer, but now says it has stepped up enforcement after last week’s riot on the U.S. Capitol.

“In light of the violent events in Washington, DC and the increased risk of harm, we began permanently suspending thousands of accounts primarily dedicated to QAnon content sharing on Friday afternoon,” the company said. “As of Friday, over 70,000 accounts have been suspended as a result of our efforts, and numerous instances of a single individual operating multiple accounts. These accounts were engaged in sharing harmful content associated with QAnon on a large scale and were primarily dedicated to spreading this conspiracy theory across the service. “
