Holloway’s performance, described by UFC welterweight pistol Marvin Vettori as “one of the craziest” he has seen, saw the Hawaiian break the competition’s records for significant hitting (445, was previously 290), full strikes (447, formerly 361), significant attacks (744, formerly 515), full attacks (746, formerly 541), and heavy headshots (274, formerly 244).

And in another surprising indication of how dominant Holloway was during his five-round featherweight demolition of Kattar, he spoke to commentators during the fight, gushing as he threw blind punches and laughed at him. the American.

It was a testament to Kattar’s extreme determination not to be beaten by KO, despite a fall in the second round and vicious blows in the fourth and fifth.

But Holloway’s supreme performance was hit when the judges announced scorecards 50-43, 50-43, 50-42.

The 29-year-old became just the third fighter in UFC history, behind Gil Castillo and David Loiseau, to score 42 points in a five-round bout.

Holloway had headed for the main event after two straight losses at the hands of Australia’s Alex Volkanovski, while Kattar entered the competition with back-to-back wins over Americans Jeremy Stephens and Dan Ige.

But Holloway was a different beast in his clash with Kattar in the UAE.

“He looked like Muhammad Ali tonight,” former two-division champion Daniel Cormier said after the fight.

“Max Holloway was floating and stinging. It was amazing.”

UFC veteran Dan Hardy was also in shock.

“I’ve never seen anything like it,” he says.

UFC President Dana White has called for a third showdown between Holloway and Volkanovski after the fight.

“I think we have to (consider the trilogy fight),” White said.

“He did the right thing in a spectacular fashion and I think he deserves to fight Volkanovsky again.”

But Holloway refused to accept the hype.

“All I have to say is there’s a big fight next week – Dustin Poirier vs. Conor McGregor,” Holloway said.

“And guess what? Your boy stays all week. If something happens – someone gives up – Dana knows my number. He can hit me.”
