WhatsApp uses stories to try to allay user privacy fears

WhatsApp really, really wants to stop you from switching to a rival chat service on its controversial new privacy policy, and it uses some of its built-in features to get the point across. The edge at learned that WhatsApp is now using status messages (aka Stories) to highlight its “commitment to your privacy” in the US and UK. A similar campaign has been underway in India for some time (see above), but is now reaching a more global audience.

A spokesperson said the company will use Statuses to deliver updates directly “in the future,” reiterating the company’s belief that there was “misinformation and confusion” surrounding the change in its privacy policy.
