Warning: Full spoilers ahead for Wonder Woman 1984!
1. What happened to Barbara Minerva, aka the cheetah?
The film stars Kristen Wiig’s Barbara Minerva, one of the Wonder Woman’s Most Iconic Villains In The Comics, The Cheetah. But even though we’ve seen her eventually transform into Cheetah and engage in a decisive battle with Wonder Woman, her story ends on an ambiguous note.
Wonder Woman defeats Cheetah by holding her underwater and letting a sparkling wire electrocute her. The hero continues to arrest Pedro Pascal’s Lord Maxwell, leaving his deceased friend unconscious. After Wonder Woman foils Max’s plan, we get one last glimpse of Barbara atop the dam, who now looks completely human. She sits alone and battered by the battle, a pained but determined look on her face.
Considering Barbara no longer wears fur and fangs, it looks like her powers are gone and she’s back to normal. Then again, we’ve never seen Barbara give up her wish like the others, so does that mean she might still have her powers? Perhaps Barbara has retained some of her powers and can now transform into a cheetah at will, making her something of a werecat.
“I have my reasons for making this ambiguous,” teased director Patty Jenkins during a question-and-answer session with IGN and a small press group. “And I think it’s not clear, his take on everything that just happened. … The truth is that there may or may not be more to come, and the reasons for that. But also, it’s complicated what’s going on with Barbara. … Even if it is that she canceled her wish, then what? She’s going back to her normal life, and now Diana’s gone? It would take time, and it would be a big deal to try to make it happen [her story arc] one way or another. There were therefore several reasons for doing so. What if that leaves you craving more answers? There is nothing wrong with it.
Given that Jenkins felt that resolving Barabara’s relationship with Diana would require more time to properly explore it, which may imply that she is considering bringing Barbara back for a possible third Wonder Woman film.
In the Renaissance-era Wonder Woman comic book directed by Greg Rucka, Liam Sharp, and Nicola Scott, Cheetah becomes some kind of Wonder Woman ally, so if she returns, then maybe it will be to fight the sides of Wonder Woman rather than against her… after they’ve worked out their issues, of course.
2. How does the wish actually work?
The movie’s rules about wishes are a bit hazy, so we end up with a lot of questions about how it all worked out in the end. Even though Max made the choice to relinquish his power to grant wishes, apparently all wishes he granted remain in effect until each person decides to relinquish their wish. So what happens with the vows that we haven’t given up?
We already have reason to believe that Barbara may not have given up on her wish, so who can say the others haven’t? Of the billions of people around the world, at least a few have made the selfish decision to stay as rich as Scrooge McDuck or keep the pet dinosaur they just revived.
And even for those who gave up their wishes, were there limits to what could be undone? The man who wished a woman would fall dead chose to give up his wish… but we never saw her get up. Did she die because he gave up too late? Do wishes even have the power to bring someone back from the dead? For the sake of this woman, let’s hope they weren’t playing by Aladdin’s rules!
3. What happened to Maxwell Lord?
While we are talking about Max, has he suffered any consequences for his actions? The movie doesn’t offer a concrete answer, but we heard sirens approaching as he reunited with his son, so we have to assume that Max was sent to jail for his catastrophic crimes against humanity. But I hope he will have some time to visit with Alistair!
In the comics, when Wonder Woman found herself in a similar situation against Max, she killed him outright by slamming his neck, Man of Steel style. So, all things considered, movie-Max got off easily.

4. How did Wonder Woman stay a secret after all?
Sure, Diana Prince has lived the past seven decades staying under the radar, but given that she has spoken to the whole world In the climactic conclusion of WWII, wouldn’t the vast majority of Earth’s population at least remember what is happening? And while the Justice League has yet to be formed, at least some of its members – like, say, Bruce Wayne – wouldn’t fully recognize his voice by the time they partnered up in the 10s? Knocking out security cameras is a good precaution, but communicating with the whole world makes this move unnecessary.
5. Who was the God who created the dream stone?
When Diana Prince and Steve Trevor begin to search for answers about the powers of Wish-Granting Max, they discover that he’s one with the Dreamstone, but who created this powerful ancient relic? Turns out he was the God of Lies, otherwise known as the Duke of Deception. However, the movie had bigger fish to fry than explore its backstory, so we never learned more about this evil being.

In the comics, the Duke of Deception was a demigod who served the enemy of Diana Ares, the God of War. As his name suggests, he was a minor deity of deception, lies and manipulation. He may be the DC version of Dolos from Greek mythology, who was the god of lies and deception. When the Duke’s name was dropped in the movie, we expected Diana to hunt him down and have another godly brawl in the third act, but considering how it already happened in the first movie, it might be worth better than she fights Cheetah instead. .
6. How did Wonder Woman make the Invisible Jet?
Wonder Woman 1984 fulfilled the geekiest desires of many fans by finally introducing the character’s iconic form of transport, the Invisible Jet. The film used the plot logic introduced in the first film to justify how Diana could have made a jet invisible.
“It’s a Rubik’s Cube that I’m trying to figure out from the first movie, how we were going to do it,” Jenkins said. The “eureka” moment came when Jenkins and co-writer Geoff Johns were thinking about it together. “I’ll just remember that moment, when we were like, ‘Oh! This is how he made the island invisible! Yes!’ It is a very big moment. “
WW84 proposes that Diana tried to learn the power her father Zeus used to make Themyscira invisible to the rest of the world, and had somehow discovered it. When pressurized, she uses this new ability to make the stolen jet completely invisible and impossible to track, allowing her and Steve Trevor to stealthily travel to Cairo.
“She doesn’t have an invisible jet, but she can make a jet invisible in the world we have now created. So I love that that was a way to get it from Themyscira and have it. I’m so excited it’s working, ”Jenkins added. “It was a big fight with consumer products, not to let them do things invisible to the jet [to not release collectibles before the movie came out]. I was like, ‘No. I want people to experience it. If they know this is happening, it will be a disappointment. ”
7. How can Wonder Woman fly?
Diana Prince finally gets her classic comic book flight ability in Wonder Woman 1984, in a way inexorably linked to her first love, Steve Trevor. After their spectacular jet escape, she tells him that flying – like traveling in a plane – always reminds her of him, and he tells her that “it’s just wind and air.” Later in the movie, after giving up on her wish to find him, she uses her whip to propel herself into the clouds and gain momentum to stay airborne, and eventually realizes she can maintain that speed. in … well, understanding that it is “the wind and the air”, do we suppose?
We’re not quite sure a physicist would let this one, uh, fly, but for the purposes of the movie, it’s a good way to tie a new power to Diana’s emotional arc. “I love that she learns to fly in this emotional way and that this metaphor means something to all of us, that is, you have to let go and accept the truth and things for what they are.” . AT
understand that it is only wind and air. And so I loved bringing those two things together, ”Jenkins said.
Unlike the invisible jet, Diana maintains her flight ability throughout the film, even using her whip to gain momentum while riding a lightning bolt. This begs the question, why did Diana never fly in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice or Justice League? At the most, we have seen her make great leaps in the air. But maybe it’s a good thing that she didn’t fly in those movies, or else The Flash wouldn’t have needed to do that cool slow-mo move where he helps a falling Diana retrieve her sword.
