The Burkinabe athlete adds 15 centimeters to the previous record set by his own trainer, Teddy Tamgho.
Hugues Fabrice Zango became the first Burkinabé athlete to set a world record by achieving the longest indoor triple jump ever with a jump of 18.07 meters (59.28 feet).
At an event on Saturday in Aubiere, France, Zango, 27, added 15 centimeters (5.9 inches) to the previous record, set by his own trainer, Frenchman Teddy Tamgho, in 2011.

Zango, who won bronze at the 2019 World Championships, started off with a foul but warmed up with a jump of 17.33 meters (56.86 feet) before steadily increasing his best to 17.61 meters (57.78 feet) then to 17.70 meters (58.07 feet).
With his last effort, he floated beyond 18 meters to beat the best of his previous life by 30 cm (11.8 inches).
“Bravo champion,” said Burkinabé President Roch Marc Kabore in a message on Facebook.
“[Zango] hold the Burkinabé flag high, filling us with pride, ”added Kabore. “I ask him to continue to prepare for a brilliant performance at the next Olympic Games.”
Britain’s Jonathan Edwards holds the world record for the outdoor triple jump with a jump of 18.29 meters (60 feet) in Gothenburg in 1995.
Apart from Zango and Edwards, only five other athletes exceeded 18 meters: the Americans Christian Taylor (18.21), Will Claye (18.14) and Kenny Harrison (18.09), the Cuban Pedro Pablo Pichardo (18.08 ) and Tamgho (18.04).
