Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady is due for knee surgery this offseason. Everyone can agree on this point.

But there are conflicting reports as to the scope of the proceedings, which was originally reported Thursday by Rick Stroud of the Tampa bay times. Per Stroud, the operation will occur on Brady’s left knee, in which he tore his ACL in 2010. He also wore a said knee brace during the Tampa Bay Super Bowl 55 boat parade; it could be seen as Brady got off the team boat.

Coach Bruce Arians confirmed the operation to Stroud, saying Brady had been planning it for months: “He’s going to do a little cleaning.”

A source, however, told the Boston Globe’s Ben Volin that the procedure was more intensive than initially reported:

Brady has never appeared on any of the team’s injury reports in 2020. Whatever knee problem he has, it doesn’t seem to hinder his game. He has completed 401 of 610 assists (65.7 percent) during the regular season for 4,633 yards and 40 touchdowns for 12 interceptions. During the playoffs, he completed 81 of 138 passes (58.7 percent) for 1,061 yards and 10 touchdowns on three interceptions. That includes a Super Bowl MVP performance in which he threw three touchdowns in a 31-9 win over the Chiefs.
