As South African cricketer Laura Wolvaardt went strong in Lucknow, Ravichandran Ashwin cheekily asked if a soft signal could be used to send her back.
Ravichandran Ashwin’s tweet impressed England cricketer Alex Hartley, who praised the off-spinner for his genuine interest in women’s football. She expressed satisfaction at seeing Ravichandran Ashwin closely following women’s cricket, Hartley hoping it will inspire others to follow suit.
Alexandra Hartley recently made the news for all the wrong reasons after England lost the Pink Test Ball to India. The cricketer posted a light tweet after the loss, suggesting that cricketer fans could watch England Women play instead.
But the tweet was taken in the wrong context by some, as many believed Hartley was doing a dig on the men’s team. Rory Burns slammed Hartley in a tweet which he later deleted, as a horrific brawl over the importance of women’s cricket in the context of men’s play ensued.
Indian women lose T20I series to South Africa after Wolvaardt heroes
India women lost to the South African women on the last ball of the second T20I, losing the match by six wickets. The loss means the South African women have taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the T20I three-game series.
Set a goal of 159, the South African women started off brilliantly with Lizelle Lee scoring a 45 ball 70 at the top. But it was Laura Wolvaardt who scored the winning points, keeping her cool by winning a single on the last ball of the match.
She scored a dazzling 39 ball 53 * which turned out to be the difference between the two teams. It was during Wolvaardt’s spellbinding blow that Ravichandran Ashwin posted the tweet that caught Alex Hartley’s attention.
