It always turns out to be an epic endeavor to secure a Playstation 5. The morning I wrote this, I missed another set of titles by about four minutes and spent the next five screaming into the void. It’s pretty small, which means I’m probably going to have to put mine in a case or something so I don’t drop it on the back of the couch and lose it forever. And the buttons are not programmable, which would have been nice. But you probably don’t want to dig through an instruction manual to figure out how to set up a macro to play the next episode of Evangelion when you crash onto the couch, anyway.

3. Thrustmaster T300 RS GT racing wheel

Just like with gamepads, we’re still waiting racing wheels which include the unique feedback and resistance characteristics of the PS5. Until then, many PS4 compatible wheels will also work with your PS5 games, and it’s one of the best with full 1080 degree rotation. The T300 RS GT is durable and has a nice, modern, sweat-resistant wheel for the white corners of the joints. The three sturdy metal pedals can really take a beating.

There is no detached handle for shifting gears, but the wheel-mounted shift pedals are durable and responsive. It also works great on PC. It’s not as luxurious as, say, Logitech’s leather-trimmed G29, but I find the rubber grips on this wheel to be a bit more functional and easier to clean.

4. Victrix Pro Arcade FS Arcade Battle Stick

A lot of my friends who are big in the fighting game scene swear by the fact that some games have to be played in an old school way, fighting stick. And given how much they tend to kick my ass throughout the arena, I’m not inclined to disagree. For PS5, I am a fan of the The victnx for all my efforts to try and do a specific combo and then accidentally make a completely different one.

This thing is sleek as hell with a matte black exterior and clean, simple face buttons that match the overall PS5 aesthetic well. It doesn’t have that classic, colorful arcade look, and the stick itself is a bit small. But it can withstand my manic, demon-like button-smashing, and has the responsive feel you need in the fire of a tight round of Mortal Kombat 11 or the next one Guilty Gear Strive.

5. Thrustmaster T-Flight HOTAS 4

There isn’t much use for a full HOTAS setup with the PS5’s currently limited catalog. But especially with Sony pushing PSVR, that can change at any time. So if you want a dongle that you can use with your PC now that will be PS5 compatible when the time comes, the Thrustmaster T-Flight will have your six.

This is a one-piece controller, great for console gaming, and it has a very modern and clean look that will fit right next to your new postmodern pixel pumping tower. The switches and buttons on the joystick and throttle are raised and shaped in such a way that you can easily find them without looking down, which can be trickier on other sticks like the one from Logitech where all the buttons somehow feel the same. It also has PS and Share buttons built right into the base, which these PC-designed sticks usually don’t.

6. DualSense charging station

I would have liked to buy a charging station for my PS4. The shape of the DualShock 4 was such that if you put it on a hard surface for a long time with the USB charging cord plugged in, it could actually bend and damage the charging port and more or less shatter the controller. This has happened to me twice! So I don’t intend to repeat the error with my PS5, and neither should you.

This official Sony one integrates two DualSense pads into a sturdy, streamlined hollow that uses the same shapes and colors as the console itself, so it blends in perfectly. If you took an extra DualSense like I did, partly I could try it on PC and partly to satisfy my craving for new hardware when consoles were always out of stock everywhere, you can even take advantage of uninterrupted games by hot-swapping one controller while the other is loading.
