Masters cutting rules

There is a rule change in the game to make the Masters Cup in 2021. Only the top 50 players (plus ties) in the standings will remain for Saturday and Sunday, a tough new cup put in place by Augusta officials in 2020 to keep the weekend field small.

Since 2013, any player within 10 strokes of the clubhouse leader after 36 holes would have qualified for the third round in addition to the first 50 automatic qualifiers.

The new rule ensures that the Masters Cup is now the most difficult of golf’s four major tournaments. The 60 best players make the cut at US Open, while the top 70 players make the cut to the PGA Championship and the open championship.
