8 best cheap laptops (2020): our picks for $ 700 or less

If you’re on a budget and want to get your money’s worth, or just want to keep something out of the landfill, the used or refurbished laptop market is worth considering. I have been very lucky buying used laptops on eBay from all kinds of sellers (professional and regular).

To get the best deal, make sure you know the market. Do your research to find a machine that meets your needs. The easiest to find, and therefore (usually) the best deals, tend to be on more boring, business-oriented models. I happen to like ThinkPads, which are used by big companies and then ditched at the same time, which means there are a lot of choices and they’re cheap.

Aim for these specifications: Try to get a laptop with at least an 8th Gen Intel Core i3 processor, 8GB of RAM, 128GB of storage (preferably an SSD), and at least a 13-inch near HD display.

Finding Used Laptops On eBay: Once you know what you want, search for it on eBay. Scroll down and check the option to display only “Ads sold”. Now take the 10 most recent sales, add up the prices and divide by 10. This is the average price; don’t pay more than that. Keep in mind the lower price is the lower price. Now deactivate the List sold option. See what is between the lowest price and this average price. These are the deals you can consider. I suggest looking at a few. Do not submit or participate at all. Watch them until the end and see how high the stakes end up.

Once you get a feel for the market and what you should be paying, you’ll know when you’ve struck a deal. When you find him, wait. Do not bid until the last minutes of the auction. You don’t want other bidders to have a chance to react. Remember, if you miss something, it’s not the end of the world. There is always something new on eBay.
