You probably don’t need someone to tell you that magnets and vital medical devices don’t mix, but Apple wants this to be crystal clear. MacRumors at learned that Apple recently update a support document to warn against maintaining iPhone 12 and MagSafe accessories too close to pacemakers, defibrillators, and other implants that may respond to magnets and radios. You should keep them at least six inches away during regular use, or at least a foot away if the iPhone is charging wirelessly.

The company argued that the extra number of magnets shouldn’t increase risk compared to older iPhone models. However, the opinion comes a few days after the doctors reported that new phones could interfere with implants. During a test, they discovered that an iPhone 12 had put a defibrillator implant in a suspended state when it approached.
