This latest watchOS 7.2 update, however, can also tell you how well you are cardio at low levels, without the need for exercise. According to Apple, the watch will use multiple sensors such as the optical heart rate sensor, GPS, and accelerometer to estimate lower levels of cardio fitness when users are simply walking around. The company says it will allow the Apple Watch to measure VO2 Max for users who aren’t able to perform high-intensity workouts.
According to the company, the American Heart Association says there is a link between poor cardiovascular condition and a higher risk of health problems such as heart disease and high blood pressure.
With watchOS 7.2 and iOS 14.3, users can now check whether their cardio fitness is high, above average, below average, or low, compared to people of the same age group and gender. This data is taken from the Fitness Registry and the National Exercise Importance Database (FRIEND). The app will also show them whether or not their cardio condition has improved over a period of time. Users can decide if they want the app to warn them if their cardio fitness has dropped to a low level, in which case it will also offer tips for improving their cardio fitness and talk to your doctor about it.
Apple iOS 14.3 and watchOS 7.2 are available today.
