Canadian star Bianca Andreescu advanced to the second round of the Australian Open after a three-set victory over Mihaela Buzarnescu.

The 20-year-old won 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 inside the Melbourne Arena, but had to overcome her fair share of scares in the process.

Andreescu entered the tournament as a No.8 seed, in his first game after more than one dismissal for injury over a year.

It sounded like business as usual for Andreescu in the first set, but the Romanian underdog made inroads in the second to take him to a decision maker.

Stuck at 3-3 in the third set, things looked even riskier for Andreescu, but she found a way to do it after going past three break points.

The winner of the 2019 US Open will now play in the second round on Wednesday, with an opponent yet to be determined.
