Matthew Wade’s struggles continued today as the Hobart Hurricanes downed the Perth Scorchers by 22 points at Marvel Stadium.

The Scorchers, who set the Hurricanes an important goal of 180 points up for grabs, officially booked their spot in the final series with the win.

Jhye Richardson was the star of the Scorchers, increasing his lead at the top of the tournament wicket count to 25 as he helped limit the Hurricanes to 8-157 with numbers 4-33 in a man-of-the-game performance.

He also exploded 29 out of 14 deliveries at the end of the first innings.

For the Hurricanes, a place in the BBL Finals series has become much more difficult with Hobart currently sitting in sixth place with six wins and five losses.

It was hoped that Wade’s BBL return from the Australian test run with India would bring the hurricanes to life.

Fight to keep your place on the Test side with a tour of South Africa scheduled for February and March, back drummer struggles continued when he left for just six races after a Richardson delivery.

Australian cricketer Adam Gilchrist said Wade’s “frustrations”, who in eight innings against India averaging just 21.62, still seemed to haunt him as he left the crease shaking his head.

“Sums it up for him, doesn’t it, like it’s been for him lately,” Gilchrist said on Fox Cricket.

“The frustrations continue for (him).

“There are times when you can get caught up in the fight, it can grab you by the neck and shake you up a bit.”
