In May 2020, Renamed Theragun Therabody and launched four new percussion therapy devices – tools that use rapid surges of pressure that stimulate blood flow to soothe sore muscles – with quieter motors than their predecessors. (These devices are still called Theraguns.)
We tested three of the new line for several weeks and spoke with a physical therapist and athletic trainer to see exactly what these devices do. Spoiler alert: they make us feel good but at a steep price. We’ve described each of the new models below and what’s WIRED and TIRED about them. We’ve also included more affordable options from other brands.
Special offer for Gear readers: get a One year subscription to WIRED for $ 5 ($ 25 off). This includes unlimited access to WIRED.com and our print magazine (if you wish). Subscriptions help fund the work we do every day.
Update December 2020: We have tested and added a section on Theragun alternatives, like the Powerboost Sharper Image.
