Two of BioWare’s oldest and best-known employees are leaving the studio. Thursday, EA announced that the two Casey hudson and Mark Darrah have decided to retire. For Hudson, this is his second departure from BioWare. After working on the three original Mass Effect games, he left the studio in 2014 and returned in 2017 to take over as Managing Director. EA has yet to name its replacement, noting that it is currently in the process of finding a new GM to lead the developer. Hudson says he “made the decision to step down from the studio and make way for the next generation of studio heads.”
Darrah, meanwhile, was executive producer of the Dragon Age franchise. Christian Dailey, director of BioWare Austin studio, which was previously at Blizzard, will take over from Darrah. “It was a very difficult decision for me,” said Darrah. “The amazing team of developers on Dragon Age makes my life fuller and better. They taught me so much. But it is also the strength of the team that makes this possible. I know Dragon Age won’t just survive without me, it will thrive.
