“He was arrested and charged with abusive language and police intimidation, before being released.

“The Club spoke at length with Payne, who is ashamed and has a lot of remorse for his actions.

Broncos CEO Paul White said: ‘This is disappointing and unacceptable – we set the highest standards for the behavior of our players, they understand it and Payne knows it is way below those standards. . “

“Payne knows he’s done wrong and is willing to take responsibility for his actions.

“As a club, we will continue to work with Payne to make sure he understands what he needs to do to improve, and also to continue to receive the support and education he needs.

“The Broncos are working with the NRL Integrity Unit on the issue.”

NSW Police had previously released a statement to the Courier Mail confirming the arrest of a 21-year-old at Tweed Heads.

“At around 10 p.m. on Saturday January 16, officers from the Tweed-Byron Police District arrested a 21-year-old man on Coral Street in Tweed Heads after the man allegedly became abusive towards the police,” the police said. communicated.

“He was taken to Tweed Heads Police Station and charged with abusive language and police intimidation.

“He is scheduled to appear in Tweed Heads local court on Tuesday, February 2.”

The NRL said: “The NRL is aware of an alleged incident involving Payne Haas. The integrity unit is liaising with NSW Police and the Brisbane Broncos.”
