Square Enix’s strategic mobile monster fighter Dragon Quest Tact is now available worldwide for Android and iOS devices after racking up more than 10 million free downloads since its debut in July 2020 in Japan.
Introducing a new form of grid-based combat to the long-running RPG franchise, Dragon Quest Tact challenges players to recruit, train, and customize a roster of iconic monsters from the series’ many episodes. To celebrate the global launch of this tactical RPG, Square Enix is giving away a free King Slime for a limited time to bolster players’ starting lineup with a touch of royal class and power.
From the adorable Slimes, Sabrecubs, and Golems in the series to the fiercest Hybirds, Killing Machines and Dragonlords, every monster has its place as players fight to save the world of Orchesterra from the dark lord’s machinations.
With simple controls and a tactical grid-based view of the battlefield, players can orchestrate the movements and attacks of their team of monsters to outwit enemies and overcome challenges. Assembling a team of monsters with complementary abilities is essential, with a mix of single target powers, area of effect, and status needed to succeed.
Using resources and gold collected in battle or purchased through the store, monsters can be upgraded to gain ranks, making them more proficient fighters by increasing their stamina and improving their abilities. This in turn leads to clashes against more robust enemies and the ability to further expand the list of available monster allies.
Each monster belongs to a family subclass and fulfills a specific role in the team. The Smiling Slime that first appeared in the original 1986 Dragon Quest is, as you might expect, part of the Slime family and is an early attack-focused ally. Dragon Quest III’s Sneaky Cannibox is a debuff role-playing monster that hails from the Inorganic Family and provides support to bamboo foes, while the Dracky Demon Family prefers magic over their wings in hand-to-hand combat to body.
From beast and wild to dragon and undead, the different types of monster families all feature a number of familiar faces that fulfill a variety of roles including attack, defense, magic, support and debuff. Training and upgrading your monster roster is vital, giving lower ranked monsters the chance to shine as you progress through the narrative adventure mode.
The Battle Road ensures that monsters of all rarity levels and strengths have a role to play by presenting challenges to overcome using specific allies. Battle Roads features original stories and is best approached with a large and varied roster of monster allies that can be obtained freely by playing.
The visual identity for these monsters is provided by Akira Toriyama, who worked on the original design of the Dragon Quest monster, and is complemented here by the iconic Dragon Quest score composed by Koichi Sugiyama. This ensures that Dragon Quest Tact has the distinct look and sound of the classic series and it is underpinned by the game direction of Yuji Horii, whose vision created the Dragon Quest series which debuted 35 years ago.
Recruit and train monster allies to outwit enemies and uncover the secrets of the Dark Lord in the fight for the Orchestra, Dragon Quest Tact is now available for free download on Android and iOS devices. Monster Ally King Slime is available as a free login bonus for a limited time.
