On the last episode of Inside SKoop with Dr Chris Featherstone, The Masterpiece went into details about the early years of his wrestling journey, including his time spent at Ultimate Pro Wrestling. It was the same promotion that was frequented by many promising young professional wrestlers, including a youngster John Cena.
Here’s what Chris Masters had to say about his time at UPW:
“A lot of people walked out of UPW … But it was a who’s-who when I first got there at that point … and everyone took a look, it is what it happened at the time. So I didn’t even have to do anything to be there. And that’s why I ended up hurting myself and took a few years to mature and focus on my conditioning and all that. “
It is clear that Chris Masters would get rid of those early issues as he would pursue a very successful career in WWE and in the industry as a whole.
Chris Masters was inspired by other stars who visited UPW
During his time training to be a professional wrestler, Chris Masters says he was always excited to see recognizable names stop by to provide a real-life experience. One of those names that Chris Masters mentioned was Rob Van Dam. The ECW icon would have a stellar career and win the WWE Championship at ECW: One Night Stand 2006.
“It was like a who’s-who man. Sylvester Terkay, Lisa Marie, I think, got out of there. Just so… RVD appeared. I remember it well enough because it’s awesome, especially when you’re new to seeing a guy like that. “
