Nathan Lyon produced his best bowling figures in Sheffield Shield cricket as New South Wales rode Victoria for 200.
After NSW was eliminated for 165 points on day one, Victoria failed to capitalize today, only taking a 35-point lead in the first inning due to Lyon’s 6-21 numbers. He was responsible for the dismissal of Marcus Harris, Matthew Short, James Pattinson, Will Sutherland, Mitchell Perry and Jon Holland.
Today’s performance for Lyon, 33, was a reminder of how damaging he can be after his disappointing performance with numbers 1-65 and 2-85 during the Gabba Test against India last month.
“An extremely exhausting week… I had a few weeks off after Gabba’s test and a pretty hectic summer,” he said. AAP.
“It was kind of nice to come home and hang out, live a normal life… get away from cricket.
NSW is currently 1-22 after the stumps, trailing by 13 points with Lyon sent as a night watchman.
Lyon’s NSW teammate and Aussie paceman Mitchell Starc produced another lackluster performance.
Starc, who took just 11 wickets at 40.72 against India in the test series, conceded 44 of his first six overs and finished 0-71 in 14 overs.
Former Test batsman Nic Maddinson took a liking to the big left owner, crushing 32 points on 19 balls against Starc.
Maddinson finished with a 77 shot on 80 balls, with Harris (24), captain Peter Handscomb (24) and Short (30) all unable to do the heavy lifting.
