Destiny 2: Season of the Chosen Dead Man’s Tale Exotic Quest Guide

Must read

A new week means a new exotic quest in Destiny 2: Beyond Light Season of the Chosen. To get the latest Exotic, which is a Scout Rifle called Dead Man’s Tale, you’re going to have to revisit an old Strike and get really comfortable with Zavala. Here’s what you need to know with a useful Destiny 2: Season of the Chosen Dead Man’s Tale exotic quest guide.

Before embarking on the actual quest, there are a few things you need to do first. For starters, you’re going to want to be at least 1230 Power for the actual quest. So if you’re not there yet, run dailies and grind a bit. You will also need the Season Pass to start this quest. You can find out more here.

For those who already have at least 12:30 p.m., the next step is to head to the EDZ (European Dead Zone) strike. The strike itself is called The Arms Dealer. If you have already issued this warning, the rest will be very quick. If it doesn’t, you’ll want to make sure you run the entire warning as it is supposed to.

How to get the Tale of the Dead quest

Once in this strike you will see a new entry point available instead of following the quest marker. Take the new alternate path to head to a two-level hallway, then take out the Scorpius enemies that will stand in your way. Keep going until you see more Scorpius enemies and the boss you’ll need to take out: Than’Grot. It is quite easy to destroy. Do this and take out the remaining Scorpius to get to the platform on the far right. There you will see a new marker appear which will lead you to a stack of crates. Inside the large blue crate is an intercepted distress signal. Get this and (for those who have been on this strike before) head back to the tower.

Once at the tower, speak to Zavala at his usual place. He will do a monologue as he often does, but when completed, he will offer a quest to earn:

Once the Voice from the Other Side quest is collected, there are two steps to follow. To “investigate the distress signal”, you will need to head to the Tangled Shore. The Tangled Shore was part of the Forsaken expansion, so for those who have upgraded their character or have chosen to opt out of this DLC, you will need to do one of two things:

  1. Complete the first part of the Forsaken expansion (which is really good!)

  2. Have someone who has already unlocked this area to join you, send them the party leader and take a tour of this destination

How to complete the new Presage Exotic Quest

Mark this active quest and head to Tangled Shore. Once that destination has returned to orbit, you will see a new area open in the upper left corner of that destination. This is where players will be able to see the latest exotic mission called Presage, which takes place aboard Calus’ abandoned ship.

Note: one of my clan mates said he thinks this can be done solo. I don’t know if I’m that bad at jumping, but I haven’t even tried to do it myself. With my own experience in mind, please run with teammates.

This quest is a long one, so you’re going to want to tie yourself in a bit when you first run it. First of all: ignore the front door. When you start the quest for the first time, you will see a main door on your way. You can’t open it right now, so don’t even worry. Instead of going through it, you will go around it and you can do it with the first of the many jumping puzzles on the left.

During this quest you will see the addition of spores. These will allow Guardians to safely pass through particular doors that are lethal when used without the help of Spores. To use them, have your playmates stand near the Spores to shoot them when they start to glow. Shooting the Spore while it’s blue will activate a buff that will protect you as you go through each door.

Some points to consider:

  • There will be switches to open the doors, but the cores can also be knocked down.

  • The available blasting fuses can open doors, stop danger, and knock down any barriers in the way.

Eventually, the final quest will have you stumble face to face in a trash area alongside Screebs. In order to stop the Contractor’s Mechanism, you’re going to want to poke around the ground for each grate to shoot until you find one that contains the core. As mentioned before, you need to pull the fuse to prevent the Undertaker from making just another piece of junk in the pile for you, or the one that opens the hatch that you can jump through before being run over.

The next step is to search the tunnel areas. Continue through each area until you find the entrance to the original area where you first came from. Once you are back at this location, you are ready to take on the remaining puzzles to continue the final boss fight.

Fortunately, it’s a fairly linear path to the missions, so don’t feel overwhelmed by the massive appearance of this area. It’s relatively straightforward. Once you get to the final fight, you’ll fight it on two different levels. On the upper level, there are three terminals you’ll need to be aware of, including one that’s in a room on fire. Each monitor must be activated to deactivate the burning room and proceed to the next step. From there, go down to the lower level to deal damage and alternating between upper and lower levels to defeat the boss.

You can also watch the walkthrough video provided by xHoundishx as we work on creating our own walkthrough (which will have the same information, but with many more deaths).
