Summary

  • Caiatl unifies the disparate forces of the Cabal as she attempts to rebuild the once great empire.
  • The chosen season runs from February 9 to May 11.
  • Destiny 2: Beyond the Light is now available with Xbox Game Pass.

The hive god of war, Xivu Arath, has been repelled – but his influence remains. In this ongoing conflict with the Hive, as humanity also struggles to regain a foothold in the fight against Darkness, a potential ally approaches: Caiatl, Empress of the Cabal.

Caiatl, daughter of the fallen Emperor Calus, unifies the disparate Cabal forces under her banner as she attempts to rebuild the once great empire. With her army growing stronger every day, she prepares to assemble a council of war made up of her greatest champions. It is at this point, as humanity faces enemies on multiple fronts, that it approaches the vanguard with a proposal.

And so, with the start of a new Destiny 2 Season, the Guardians are again faced with the question: What is the price we are willing to pay to defeat the Darkness?

The season of the elect has arrived, keepers.

New battlefields

Now that you are up to the story, we should take a look at what’s new in Season of the Chosen (because there are a lot of them) which runs from February 9 to May 11. With enemies planting their flags at multiple destinations, the Guardians must increase their power to claim victory on new battlefields and in new strikes.

Battlefield

The new seasonal activity calls upon the Guardians to face off against the warriors chosen by Caiatl who have taken up arms to defend the glory of the empire. Stand up and face them like a champion of humanity.

The season of the chosen kicks off with two battlegrounds on Nessus and Europa. After that, other battlegrounds will open in the following weeks. These are replayable matchmaking activities, so band together with friends or create new ones by jumping in the queue and joining a fire team.

Strikes

These three strikes become available during the Season of the Chosen:

  • Devil’s Lair – Find and destroy the one Exalted Servant supporting the Fallen Demon House in the Cosmodrome.
  • Fallen SABER – Rush using AI Warmind Rasputin as he broadcasts a call for help throughout the system.
  • Grounds of proof – The Champions of Humanity face off against the Champions of the Cabal to determine the fate of the Last City.

The first two strikes open on the first day of the season, while Proving Grounds land a few weeks later to coincide with the seasonal story.

New resources

Guardians need a powerful arsenal to engage with Caiatl, Xivu Arath, and the Darkness. To build this arsenal, a cache of new and reissued weapons is added to the loot pool. Between Exotic, Legendary, and Sorcery weapons, there are over 25 weapons to collect.

The new seasonal weapon is Ticuu Divination, an exotic bow that shoots multiple arrows with a single pull of the string. Each arrow heads towards an enemy, dealing solar damage and striking a blow for humanity.

Destiny 2: Season of the Chosen

Ticuu’s Divination and Seasonal Armor Set are instantly unlocked for Season Pass holders. Players who dive into the Season for free will have access to Armor and Bow by upgrading and unlocking them (along with many other rewards) via the new Seasonal Rewards track.

Putting on the armor and wielding the weapons of a champion is just the start. Although most Vanguard enemies only need one outfit, one weapon, and one objective: Kill Guardian; Guardians need to be a little more flexible. This is where the HELM comes in. The HELM is a new location in the tower where Guardians can meet allies, plan their next attack, and unlock new rewards.

Speaking of new rewards, Shadow Engrams are back.

New choices

Shadow Engrams help you get the perfect versions of your favorite gear. Destiny fans will fondly remember these Arrivals Season Engrams – and now they’re back with a twist.

Destiny 2: Season of the Chosen

Umbral Engrams still puts you in control of what rewards you unlock, but a new in-game feature called Prismatic Lenses will give you even more control over what you unlock. So even though you used to choose whether you had armor or weapon, and even which armor or weapon pool you wanted to roll from, there is now even more control.

Think of it this way:

  1. You have a mystery box with a dessert (already awesome).
  2. If it was an Umbral Box, you could choose to make the dessert a donut.
  3. If it was an umbrella box with a prismatic lens, you could make the dessert a chocolate donut.

But obviously, instead of a dessert, it’s a weapon or a piece of armor. There are several objectives to collect, and each gives you different ways to control your rewards.

New challenges

Can’t start playing Season of the Chosen right away? Worried about missing out on weekly bounty rewards? The new Seasonal Challenge system has you covered.

Destiny 2: Season of the Chosen

These challenges last the entire season and replace weekly bounties. So, no matter when you start the season, you can complete challenges from previous weeks to earn seasonal rewards, Luminous Dust, and more!

New trophy

A New Year in Destiny means a new Guardian Games event to rekindle the never-ending argument over class reigning supreme. Participate, earn themed rewards, keep tabs on the leaderboards, and when the dust settles, the top performing class receives a trophy that stands in the tower for the rest of the year.

The Titans won gold last year, but from what I’ve heard from hunters and wizards, it was a fluke. Either way, the time has come for the Titan Trophy to descend and for each class to have a new chance at glory.

New pack

There’s a new Money Pack that helps players buy the Season of the Chosen, grab an exclusive emote, and pocket enough cash to hit the final town in Eververse style. Buy yours today and unlock the Legendary Emote For The Public.

Destiny 2: Season of the Chosen

Whether you buy the new Silver Pack or start playing Destiny 2 for free, and Xbox Game Pass members can participate today with Destiny 2: Beyond the Light, we can’t wait for you to join us and stand up for humanity as one of the traveller’s chosen ones – a Guardian of the Last City.

See you soon.
