Doctor Who’s Jodie Whittaker is reportedly preparing to exit TARDIS for good at the end of the next series of the iconic BBC show. The mirrorWhittaker reportedly shared his intention to quit the show’s lead role after three years, with an anonymous source claiming the team are now preparing for a regeneration, which will need to be filmed “at some point in the months to come” in order to prepare the ground for the 14th Doctor.

The BBC declined to comment on rumors about Whittaker, who became the 13th actor and the first woman to portray the Time Lord after having signed up to take on the beloved role in 2017. In response to the report, a BBC spokesperson said Variety that they would not comment on “any speculation about Jodie’s future on the show”.

Whittaker co-stars Bradley Walsh and Tosin Cole made their last appearances on the longtime series during the New Years special, Revolution of the Daleks, which also saw John Barrowman’s Captain Jack Harkness Returns, who was first introduced as a recurring guest character in Season 1 of the Doctor Who rebirth before facing off against the series spinoff Torchwood.

In our episode review, we praised Walsh and Cole’s final scene for offering “a somewhat satisfying symmetry,” although we also recognized that it included “a note that some might consider too manipulative in the same way that ‘A Hallmark Christmas film would avoid sounding too over the top,’ which in part contributed to ‘a disappointing comeback for Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor and her family’.
