He may no longer be president of Collingwood, but that doesn’t mean Eddie McGuirethe point of view of Port Adelaide ‘Prison Bar’ iconic sweater have changed.

After being cleared to wear it during last season’s annual ‘Showdown’ against Adelaide due to the club’s 150th anniversary, Port has once again made a request to the AFL to be able to wear the iconic band of this year.

Veteran AFL reporter Caroline Wilson revealed that the league had yet to make a decision on the Power’s request, adding that it would be up to Collingwood to authorize it.

Although McGuire is no longer at the helm at Collingwood, he said he was sure of the club’s response to the AFL and Port Adelaide.

“I know what the answer will be, the answer is no,” he told Nine’s Footy Ranked.

“They had it last year! So tell me that, they thought about it last year and knew they were going to play in front of an empty stadium and would wear it anyway.”

“This year they’ll have it for the 151st birthday. And next year, what’s it, Mark Williams’ birthday or something like that?”

McGuire cited the income that the iconic Collingwood rider brings to the AFL as his main argument for not allowing the power to go to jail bars.

“The Collingwood Football Club sweater is one of the most sought after and expensive jumpers. We just made a massive deal with Nike, with CGU and Emirates there,” he said.

“Collingwood receives $ 6 million a year less than Port Adelaide, so Collingwood is a net donor every year and has been in competition all the way.

“If they want to celebrate something big, when they start to become a network giver instead of a network receiver, then we’re going to take a look. This Collingwood rider keeps them going because we are making a lot of money on the back of this.

“It’s a brand issue. AFL, when it took over all of our brands, must protect the brand.

“Everyone is fed up. They have great sweaters. They have a thousand sweaters that they’ve worn over the years. It’s no small thing. If it’s so small, why are they giving us back. crazy every year ??

“They wore it last year, we allowed them to wear it whenever they asked us to.

“They have a thousand jumpers to wear, they have a really good jumper this year, they might want a prime minister’s jumper.

“Worry about this, worry about making money and stop boring us every year.” It’s that simple. Step back, no. You have a great sweater, keep it up. It’s just boring now.
