England versatile Sam curran and Moeen Ali joined their Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK) before the 2021 edition of the competition.
Both Sam curran and Moeen Ali were part of the England squad which faced India in the recently concluded ODI Series. England lost to India by seven points in the decisive ODI of the three-game series in Pune on Sunday.
On their official social media account, CSK posted a photo of Sam Curran and Moeen Ali joining the franchise to prepare for IPL 2021. In addition to the image, Chennai Super Kings included a smart caption that read:
“Mo is with his family in the field, namma #KadaikuttySingam! #WhistlePodu #Yellove. “
While Sam Curran was retained by CSK ahead of the 2021 IPL auction, Moeen Ali was bought for INR 7 crore.
Earlier today, the franchise posted a video of Robin Uthappa, Krishnappa Gowtham and Cheteshwar Pujara on their first day of training after completing their quarantine.
Chennai Super Kings is one of the most successful franchises in the IPL, having won the T20 competition three times. Only Mumbai Indians have won the IPL more times, doing so five times.
Last season, however, CSK had a nightmarish run. They finished in seventh position with six wins and eight losses. It was the first time the Chennai Super Kings failed to advance to the IPL playoffs.
Sam Curran almost scored a miraculous victory for England
A day before joining his IPL franchise, Sam Curran proved why he was rated so highly. The southpaw scored 95 sensational unbeaten on 83 balls to almost secure an unlikely victory for England. The 22-year-old blasted nine fours and three sixes in his magnificent innings.
At 200 for 7 while chasing 330, England looked dead and buried before Sam Curran brought the innings back to life. Although the visitors ended up losing the game by seven points, the English all-rounder has been named ‘the man of the match’ for his exceptional effort.
Speaking after receiving the honor, Sam Curran said:
“We didn’t win the game but happy with the way I played. I haven’t done something like this in a while, especially for England. Disappointed with the finish. A massive learning curve for me but disappointed in the end. Again it’s a learning series with the ball and I feel like it gave me a lot of confidence for the IPL. Go straight there (CSK) for the IPL. “
Sam Curran played 14 games for CSK in the 2020 IPL. He scored 186 points with the bat at a 131.91 strike rate. With the ball, he picked up 13 wickets at a hit rate of 19.38 and a save rate of 8.19.
