It’s no shock that Epic is keeping their physical tournament schedule empty. While Covid-19 vaccines are underway, the mass vaccinations needed to hold in-person events safely could take several months or more. It is also possible that social distancing and capacity limits may remain in place for some time after vaccines become widely available. It’s just easier for Epic to exclude in person Fortnite matches than playing in rapidly improving conditions.
Other gaming tournaments, such as Dota 2of International, are still considered possibilities in 2021. That said, don’t be surprised if they follow Epic’s path by canceling 2021 events outright or putting hard limits on who can attend.
