MTA introduces contactless payments for the first time last may, but it took over a year and a half for the technology to spread through New York’s mass transit system. During that time, MTA saw more than 35 million taps using OMNY, said MTA executive director Al Putre in a press conference today. The next goal, he said, is to bring OMNY to New York rail lines and introduce contactless OMNY cards, including discount cards, to bring OMNY functionality to the fore. height of current MetroCard offerings.
