A 1997 remake Face / Off, which starred John Travolta and Nicolas Cage, is in the works at Paramount and will be directed by Godzilla against Kong’s Adam Wingard. THR, Wingard will also co-write the screenplay with Simon Barrett. Oren Uziel of 22 Jump Street wrote a the remake that would have been in development in 2019.The original Face / Off was directed by John Woo and followed the story of FBI agent Sean Archer (Travolta) and terrorist Castor Troy (Cage). Archer must go undercover as a criminal, and a medic replaces his face with Troy’s. When Troy wakes up, he forces that same doctor to give him Archer’s face.

Fast and Furious creator Neal Mortiz will produce for Paramount and David Permut will assume the role of executive producer.

Adam Wingard will join us for our 2021 IGN Fan Fest in a segment titled “Godzilla vs. Kong: Breaking Up Cinema’s Biggest Brawl With Adam Wingard.” Wingard will answer questions from fans and offer a new taste of the film ahead of its release on HBO Max and in theaters on March 21, 2021.

In 2017, Face / Off reached No.7 on our list of the 25 Best Cheesy Action Movies.

To the uninitiated, Face / Off seems absurd, “we wrote.” is absurd. Nothing about cutting your own face and stitching your worst enemy’s face to your skull in its place makes sense. But how are you going to be able to free Nic Cage and John Travolta under strict instructions to act like the craziest version of each other they can muster? I rest my case. “
