Francisco Lindor is used to playing around the bag. But now he got it.
Right after the midnight strike on opening day, the Mets and the superstar agreed to a 10-year, $ 341 million deal that will keep Lindor in the Big Apple until the 2031 season. Put – and rejoice.
As their savvy offseason moves breathed life into the franchise, Steve Cohen and the Mets rang in the 2021 MLB season with a clear message: These aren’t your daddy’s Mets. Gone are the days of fans begging Wilpon’s ownership group to make the smart financial decisions and home moves (no pun intended).
AFTER: Mets fans around the world are thrilled with Lindor’s news
The most important thing – winning – has yet to come for New York, but at least they’re headed in the right direction.
Of course, the last hours before the deal was signed were a bit dramatic. The deal was reportedly done literally at the 11th hour and came on the bell of Lindor’s imposed deadline for opening day.
Would you expect anything less from the Mets?

The deal locks Lindor into New York City during his 37-year season, which isn’t bad, all things considered. Even though Lindor goes down between 35 years and 37 seasons – as most superstars do – the Mets are getting a star in their prime now, in a window that is open now, for a new owner and a fan base desperate to find it. ‘a winner.
And it is amazing.
