UFC fans were in collapse after witnessing Cory Sandhagen’s KO contender of the year – a flying knee to the chin of former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar.

The UFC Vegas 18 co-main event on Sunday ended after just 28 seconds, with referee Keith Peterson forced out of the fight after Sandhagen completely knocked out Edgar who had remained on the canvas.

“It feels good, man, but it’s Frankie Edgar,” Sandhagen said.

“I don’t want to see that happen to him, you know?” But better him than me. This is the game we are in.

Sandhagen, 28, improves his record to 14-2-0 after today’s knockout. He has now lost only one fight of his last ten.

Sandhagen’s next fight could be for the UFC bantamweight belt, with him now in line to face the winner of current defending champion Petr Yan and Aljamain Sterling.

“I think I finally have the hype that I deserve now,” Sandhagen said.

“I just hovered under the radar. The fans know who I am if they’re really into the sport, but the rest don’t. This climax will pass and I think I have a lot of opportunities now. “

After the fight, fans were quick to take to social media, with many calling Sandhagen’s knockout one of the biggest.
