How Cathy Yan’s Dead Pigs Influenced Birds Of Prey

Warner Bros. ‘ Birds of Prey has been a breath of fresh air for DC’s live-action lineup, and much of that can be attributed to director Cathy Yan’s vision. The film, which was Yan’s second, follows his equally irreverent indie debut Dead Pigs, which was inspired by the Huangpu River incident in 2013, also explored the interconnected lives of people, from different walks of life, living in China. We had the opportunity to speak with Cathy Yan from Dead Pigs and discuss the stylistic choices she brought from this film to Birds of Prey, the cinematography, the lighting, the color and the costumes.
