Zack Snyder’s Justice League is out now on HBO Max in 2021 and that has one big change: DC villain Darkseid (Ray Porter) has been added to the movie! Thanks to skilled artists at Weta Digital, Darkseid is now in the flashback battle in place of Steppenwolf (Ciarán Hinds), who was the villain in director Joss Whedon’s 2017 Justice League movie. Weta Digital’s Anders Langlands (VFX Supervisor) and Simeon Duncombe (Animation Supervisor) break down the Battle of Darkseid in the Snyder Cut, explain how this Darkseid fight against Atlanteans, Humans, Amazons, Greek Gods (including including Ares played by David Thelwis), and a Green Lantern is different from the Whedon Cut and shows the different visual effects and motion capture they used to make it happen. The focus is on how Snyder Cut’s R-Rating (for violence and language) allowed them to do even more in Darkseid’s fast-paced battle against Green Lantern, including Darkseid nearly taking the ring of Green Lantern for his. This VFX breakdown video will show behind-the-scenes visuals of how Darkseid was repelled by Defenders of Earth, as opposed to the Whedon version of Justice League from 2017.
