If you have played the Viking Valheim survival game, you probably amassed a huge pile of gems and coins during your travels in the early biomes, the prairie and the black forest. Burial chambers and troll hunts can fill your pockets with valuables during your first few days of play and then on subsequent forays into the Sunken Swamp Crypts can produce huge piles of Amber, Amber Beads and Rubies while you collect scrap. Make sure to bring a torch or light source into these dungeons and caves, otherwise you might miss out on these valuable items as they are tiny, difficult to see, and often hidden in a corner out of sight. Sure, sometimes you’ll find a stack in a chest, but check the darker areas of the main rooms.
Return your treasure for extremely useful items at Haldor
Chances are your valuables and coins will be tucked away in a box on your property, waiting for the day you find a place to spend them. Hopefully that day has come, as you make your way to the vendor in the Black Forest biome. Depending on the seed of your world, your suppliers can be incredibly easy to find, or you might want to pack a lunch bag for a long exploration around the world. Either way, you should plan to locate the vendor as early as possible, don’t put it off when you start exploring the swamp and plains biomes. Basically, you should try to find a vendor at or around the time you take down the Ancient One, but don’t worry if you organize a locate expedition a bit later. That said, the vendor does grant access to some incredibly powerful items that will make your life easier as you move through the more difficult areas of the game.
The vendor’s name is Haldor and appears on the card with a big bag symbol. There’s a pretty generous range for this map icon, so keep an eye on your map as you search for Haldor, as the symbol will appear long before you can see his camp. Depending on how close your civilization is to Haldor, one of your first plans should be to build a portal nearby (assuming you have the surtling cores to spare). Then it’s time to take a look at what this mystical merchant has to offer!
Haldor sells fishing rods and baits that can greatly diversify your cooking options and give you something to do on those long journeys across the sea, but this is just the start. The big item on sale for 950 gold is the Megingjord. You want that. What does it do? In Norse mythology, the Megingjord is Thor’s belt of magical strength. In Valheim, it works pretty much the same, and wearing it will increase your weight limit from 300 to 450. That’s a ton more ore you can bring back from those dungeon digs, and it allows you to use high end metals to make your equipment more palatable. Iron is heavy!
Tired of carrying a torch? Take the Dverger circle and you will have a source of light on your head wherever you go! And if you just want to sit around the farm in style while you grow crops and honey, grab the Christmas hat. It is elegant.
It will be difficult to find the thousands of raw parts that you and your team need to get a full complement of goods from Haldor, which is why you want to bring your valuables to him. While you cannot sell standard goods in Haldor, anything labeled “valuable” in your inventory can be sold for coins.
Once you find Haldor and have the option of exchanging your treasures for useful items, your progression in Valheim gives you new options and extremely useful tools to make the survival journey easier. Find the seller as soon as you can!
