Jason Terry has been an NBA player for almost two decades. He won a championship with the Mavericks in 2011. He totaled 18,881 points, good for 66th on all-time league scorecard.
And yet, when Terry goes to youth basketball camps to share his knowledge of the game, the kids ask just one question: How did you feel about being posterized by LeBron James?

Quick reminder: on March 18, 2013, the Heat and Celtics, fierce rivals at the time, faced off for a nationally televised contest at TD Garden. In the middle of the second quarter, Terry returned the ball near the half-court, setting Miami up for a 3-on-1 opportunity. Terry pulled back and tried to prevent an easy bucket, but then James came scolding into the field. ‘alley and. . . boom.
Unfortunately for Terry, this defining moment followed him for the rest of his career and until his retirement. The 2008-09 Sixth Man of the Year award winner discussed monster slam in an episode of Bleacher Report’s “Untold Stories” with Master Tesfatsion.
“I mean it’s one of the lowest moments of my career, but at the same time, I mean, I’ll be forever in history,” said Terry. “Like, you got soaked in ‘The King’.”
Terry told Tesfatsion he was trying to make up the turnover by getting a defensive save. He followed the balloon from Mario Chalmers to Norris Cole but didn’t realize quickly enough that the James train was rolling on the tracks.
“He was already in the air. It was in slow motion,” said Terry. “What made me jump is what I’m trying to figure out. There’s no – like, even though you jumped, you don’t touch that. And I jumped up, man, and he lifted me up on his knee, and I was still with him. Like, LeBron bang, bang. It was finished. “
Of course, the jokes were just beginning. Terry had to take the verbal blows not only from the online community, but also from his own friends and teammates.
“For three weeks I was checking my phone and people texting me.” Dude, are you okay? Said Terry. “Like, numbers that I haven’t heard in eight years, I see numbers popping up.” Jet, are you good? Are you dead, big mate? You are good? “Like, I don’t know what these people are talking about. They even said on Wikipedia, they said it was the date of my death and there was the date and everything in there. It’s crazy, man. ….
“[My teammates were] killing me in the locker room. Destroy me. Jokes and jokes and jokes. I’m telling you, it lasted a while. “
