JJ Watt is a free agent after asking the Texans to release him from his contract, and NFL fans are curious where he will sign next.

There may have been a brief clue to Watt’s future in 2015, when the defensive end appeared on the “New Girl” TV show. During Season 4, Episode 19, Watt played himself in an episode titled “The Right Thing”. About 17 minutes into the episode’s start, Watt can be seen searching for a box containing a football helmet.

The team of this helmet? Browns.

AFTER: Why the Browns are a candidate for JJ Watt

The helmet only made a brief appearance, but it’s probably enough to get Browns fans excited. And while there’s a logical reason for this helmet to be there (it was in the garage of Watt’s agent who died on the show), it’s an interesting coincidence given this upcoming offseason.

Watt became a free agent and upon his release, reports said that “going to a suitor will be important” for the veteran player. The Browns are certainly contenders after a strong 2020, and a report came out on Tuesday saying there was mutual interest.

From Cleveland.com:

Released by the Texans on Friday, Watt is seriously considering the Browns as one of his options as they have a lot of what he wants, sources told cleveland.com.

The two most important things? Money and Super Bowl potential. Plus, they have a strong supporting cast and a positive environment.

So there is a real chance that Watt will end up on the Browns.

While not because of a random episode of “New Girl” in 2015, it’s an interesting connection nonetheless.
