Sydney Sixers Star Josh Philippe was recognized for an outstanding BBL10 campaign by being named player of the tournament.
Philippe had 22 votes, two more than Alex Hales of the Sydney Thunder and three more than Jhye Richardson of the Perth Scorchers.
The 23-year-old has scored 499 points so far this summer with an average of 33.26 and a strike rate of 150.30. Only Hales scored more points for the tournament.
Philippe topped 50 on three occasions, including a highest score of 95 in just 57 balls against the Melbourne Renegades in Hobart before Christmas, while his 45 against the Perth Scorchers last Saturday helped the Sixers advance to this weekend’s final, which they will host at CRS.
He is now in line for an Australian debut, having been named to the squad for the upcoming series in New Zealand.
“It is a well-deserved award and recognition for a number of winning performances, which has guided the Sixers to a second consecutive home final at SCG and selection to the Australian men’s team T20I,” said Alistair Dobson, of CA.
“Our congratulations also go to Alex Hales and Jhye Richardson for their performances this year which saw them atop the BKT Golden Bat and Arm rankings as the final two games of the campaign approached.
The Sixers will face the Scorchers or the Heat in the final.
