Mortal combat by Warner Bros. makes its long awaited debut this April, and Weekly entertainment has a new room sharing story details and exclusive photos from the movie. The new footage gives fans a glimpse of some of their favorite kombatants in all their cinematic glory.
The article goes through the first minutes of the film, a battle between Sub-Zero and Scorpion in their pre-ninja identities, Bi-Han and Hanzo Hasashi, respectively. The bundle of photos gives us a good overview of Liu Kang, Kung Lao, Sonya Blade, Jax. The article also highlights Cole Young, an all-new character and the film’s apparent protagonist. He’s a failed MMA fighter who has a mysterious connection to the notorious tournament, as evidenced by a birthmark of the iconic dragon symbol on his chest. Other confirmed characters include Raiden, Kano, Shang Tsung, Mileena, and Nitara. Be sure to head over to EW’s site for the full scoop, as it’s worth reading.
For those worried that the film might water down the game’s signature gore, according to director Simon McQuoid, “it definitely won’t get a PG-13 rating.” One of the main reasons for this will be the film’s fully realized fatalities, a first for any Mortal Kombat movie, some of which come straight from the games. Everything about the film looks promising on paper, and after undergoing a COVID delay, it’s nice to see a light from the end of the tunnel for the project.
Mortal combat is also produced by Todd Gardner and James Wan (Aquaman, Conspiracy). The film is released on April 16 and will be available to stream on HBO Max on the same day, it hits theaters.
