Mortal Kombat movie is delayed a week after Warner Bros. has announced that the video game adaptation will now release on April 23 instead of its original release date of April 16. HBO announced the date change in a press release sent to IGN but did not explain why the date was pushed back a week. The video game adaptation is slated to premiere on HBO Max and in theaters, in line with WarnerMedia’s strategy of releasing its entire 2021 movie slate in both formats. Directed by Simon McQuoid, Mortal Kombat is a new film adaptation of NetherRealm’s popular fighting game series. The film will feature iconic characters such as Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Liu Kang and many more as they go head to head in an otherworldly fighting tournament that will determine the fate of Earth.

During a press tour promoting the film, director Simon McQuoid promised a faithful adaptation to the series which aims to push the R-Rating to its limit without becoming “irreducible”. Each character will also be loyal to their video game counterparts, and that will be reflected in their introductions and fight scenes. McQuoid is a veteran sales manager which made its film debut with Mortal Kombat. McQuoid previously did a series of live commercials for PlayStation.
