Support for the NFL playoffs for 2021 has taken its final form.

The NFC East champion Washington football team have won the NFC fourth seed and will welcome the Buccaneers to the wildcard round. The Chiefs and Packers have had time off from every conference. The Dolphins, Cardinals and Cowboys suffered costly losses in Week 17. And the Bills and Rams have shown they can win even without their best players on the court.

Starting Jan. 9, the NFL will feature its expanded 14-team playoff squad (up from 12 for the first time this season). Of these 14, 12 will play in the first round thanks to a bye structure necessarily modified to end up with the same number of eliminatory rounds. Extra teams mean two extra games, putting a trio of Saturday and Sunday games into the wild card weekend.

When do the NFL playoffs end in 2021?

  • Start date: Saturday January 9
  • End date: Sunday February 7

The NFL playoffs last about a month, starting with the wild card round, then the division round and the conference championships before ending with the Super Bowl on February 7 in Tampa, Florida.

As is often the case, there is a week between conference title games and the Super Bowl. Normally the Pro Bowl is played in this gap, although there is no physical Pro Bowl game played in 2021.
