NRL News, Brisbane Broncos to be based in Sydney after instant lockdown

The Broncos will call Sydney home for the next fortnight as the team prepares to base themselves in Harbor City. to avoid complications related to Brisbane’s fear of COVID.

Interim CEO Neil Monaghan revealed all football players and staff will be transported on a charter flight to Sydney Monday afternoon and set up a mini-hub where they will stay until the Round 5 clash against the Rabbitohs is over.

“The players and staff have taken the changes in their stride, and while it is difficult for many of our squad with young families, they are eager to hit the road and prepare for a big challenge against the Storm. “said Monaghan.

“We will then stay in Sydney to prepare for the Rabbitohs game, which will ensure the continuity of the competition.

“Coach Kev Walters and all the players and staff see this time on the road as a great opportunity to further strengthen their team bond, especially after a morale boosting victory.”

The team will be based in Sydney to prepare for Friday night’s game against the Storm in Melbourne before returning to face South Sydney the following week.

The changes took effect after a three-day COVID lockdown was declared in the Greater Brisbane area.

A decision on whether the team will return to Brisbane after the Rabbitohs game will depend on how the lockdown plays out.
