NRL News Corey Allan signs with Bulldogs, grant release in South Sydney

Must read

Canterbury Bulldogs jumped on the old Rabbitoh full-back Corey Allan signs 2020 breakout star on a three-year contract.

Allan trained with the Bulldogs on Monday, moving to Belmore immediately after South Sydney has granted the Maroons Origin star an early release from his contract.

The 22-year-old now finds himself in the blue and white until the end of the 2023 season, joining Incoming coach Trent Barrett’s impressive list of off-season signings.

“We worked hard during the offseason to bring in the right players in terms of ability and attitude and we believe Corey will be a great addition for our club,” Barrett said.

“Everyone has seen what Corey can do over the past two seasons and we believe he has the potential to be an exceptional player and someone who adds both quality and versatility to our bottom line.

“Corey will join us immediately and start training with the team from today and everyone is looking forward to him being a part of the Bulldogs.”

Allan joins a host of talent that was drawn to Belmore during the offseason, including former Roosters half-back Kyle Flanagan, storm speedster Josh Addo-carr, Raiders power Nick Cotric and talent of the Panthers Matt Burton.

Allan has played 29 NRL games so far for the Rabbitohs, spending time both on the wing and in the back.

“Corey has done a great job for our club over the past two seasons and he comes to his new club knowing he has the respect of everyone at Souths,” said Souths football manager Mark Ellison.

“His favorite position, and his best position, is the back and the opportunity to play that position regularly is not there with us.

“He thinks he will have a better opportunity to play full back at his new club, with an extended and improved contract than the one he had with us.

“We felt it would be unfair to stand in the way of Corey’s advancement in his career elsewhere, he will always be a Rabbitoh, and we wish him and his partner Teigan all the best for the future.”
