St George Illawarra is reportedly considering a shock game for disgraced Cronulla Sharks star Andrew Fifita.
Fifita ended up on the road during the reign of coach John Morris, confined to reserve class with foster club Cronulla Newtown Jets for the past three weeks.
But it looks like the fortune of the award-winning accessory may soon change with the Dragons reportedly interested in luring the 31-year-old to the Red V.
The Sydney Morning Herald reports that the Dragons are closely monitoring the situation with Fifita in Cronulla.
Fifita was also spotted talking to Dragons coach Anthony Griffin for some time before an NSW Cup game a fortnight ago.
The 2016 Prime Minister winner has an existing relationship with Griffin, which dates back to their time with the Tonga national team.
Australian Brent Read has also claimed Griffin is closely monitoring Fifita’s situation.
“The Dragons are watching Andrew Fifita,” Read told Fox Sports’ NRL 360.
“He has a relationship with Anthony Griffin. He coached him in Tonga. They caught up a few weeks ago when Andrew played for Newtown. The Dragons are interested.”
Fifita has struggled to regain her best form in recent years after a series of knee and mobility issues.
He recently lost over 20 pounds in the off season in an effort to revitalize his career.
